Creative Movement

Tots ‘n Tutus: 2 yrs

Designed for our youngest dancers, our Tots ‘n Tutus class is a great introduction to dance for your child as they explore movement through music. This class emphasizes creative dance exploration and basic understanding of musicality. It’s also a great way to help improve your child’s motor skills and coordination. Dancers in this class will work on gross motor skills as well as learning the beginning stages of movement with rhythm (like clapping and marching). This class also promotes the development of social skills at an important age. This class is a great way for your two-year-old to meet new friends, and take direction from someone other than their parent or guardian.

Mommy & Me: 18mo-2 yrs

Mommy and Me classes help babies and toddlers develop and strengthen their muscles, improve coordination and become more confident and independent. Classes are also a great opportunity to meet other local parents!

Combo Classes

3k-5k

This class introduces a structured environment while allowing children to recognize their own individuality and body mobility. Focus is on coordination and rhythm introduced in creative and imaginative ways. This class will develop your child’s coordination as well as an understanding of dance concepts and terminology. Through this enjoyable educational experience, students will learn to use dance as a creative means of self-expression. Students learn vocabulary, alignment, proper execution of movement, memorization, and independence through sequential tasking. These classes are an hour, however we do offer some express classes for 45 minutes for our younger dancers. Most combo classes are ballet and tap, but other options are available.

*Each child is individually placed in a particular class level based on previous experience and training.

Ballet & Pointe

1st grade and up

In ballet, students are introduced to a more formal class structure built upon a technical foundation. Ballet helps with posture, balance, and coordination. Class is structured beginning at the barre with exercises focused on placement of the body and developing strength and flexibility. French terminology and musicality are emphasized.

*Each child is individually placed in a particular class level based on previous experience and training.

*Instructor approval required for pointe

12 years old with minimum of 3 years of ballet.

Pointe shoes give ballet dancers the capability to dance on the tips of their toes. Dancing on pointe requires a technical ballet foundation gained from years of experience as well as certain physical requirements including strong ankles and feet. Students are encouraged to take pre-pointe to prepare, however not all ballet students will be permitted to go on pointe. This is for the safety and development of our students.

Tap

1st grade and up

The rhythm and movement of tap, created by the metal taps on the heels and toes of a dancer’s shoes, transforms the dancer into a percussive musician. Tap dance emphasizes the flow of movement by teaching the dancer to find rhythms and beats not only in music but in their own bodies. It increases coordination and develops a sense of rhythm and musicality in dance. Class varies in styles from Broadway/traditional to rhythm tap and hoofing.

*Each child is individually placed in a particular class level based on previous experience and training.

Jazz

1st grade and up

Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. Jazz also has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accents of musical rhythms. Emphasis is on the importance of energy, rhythmic accuracy, and style. Ballet is highly recommended for jazz dancers.
